An AC clamp meter is a specialized electrical testing tool that is highly valued for its safety and convenience. It is essentially a digital multimeter with the added functionality of a current sensor built into its hinged jaws.

How it Works

The primary purpose of an AC clamp meter is to measure alternating current (AC) without the need to physically break or disconnect the circuit. It works on the principle of magnetic induction.

1. Magnetic Field: When AC flows through a wire, it generates a fluctuating magnetic field around it.
2. Sensing: The clamp meter’s jaws, which are made of a ferrous material like ferrite iron, are designed to detect and concentrate this magnetic field when clamped around a single conductor.
